Manchester City might have to play without Kevin De Bruyne in their title-deciding clash against West Ham on Sunday. The star midfielder was forced off with an ankle injury against Tottenham in mid-week.

Pep Guardiola Offers Injury Update on Kevin De Bruyne

The Final Step

Manchester City reclaimed the Premier League’s top spot by defeating Tottenham 2-0 on Tuesday. The Citizens are on the verge of claiming their fourth league title in a row, but there is still one game to be played.

The tight race between the holders and Arsenal, which has been ongoing for several months, will finally come to a conclusion this weekend. The leaders host the Irons while the Gunners hope to keep their title hopes alive by beating Everton at the Emirates.

Latest Injury Updates

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola said he expected a similar situation to the final day of the 2021/22 season when the Citizens claimed the trophy after a dramatic win over Aston Villa.

De Bruyne was crucial to the victory that day, but he might have to stay out of Sunday’s clash against West Ham.

Asked about the 32-year-old’s fitness, Guardiola admitted the midfielder’s participation in the next game is not guaranteed, saying: “We will see today. Yesterday we were off and today we’ve got training and I will see.”

On Tuesday, Nathan Ake returned to the squad after recovering from a minor calf issue. However, Ederson is expected to miss his side’s last two games of the season after suffering a fracture to his right eye socket against Tottenham.

Arsenal are in better shape in terms of their injury concerns ahead of the final matchday. Bukayo Saka limped off the pitch against Manchester United on Sunday, but Mikel Arteta confirmed he had avoided an injury. Jurrien Timber, who has stayed out with injury since the first week of the campaign, could make his long-awaited return against Everton.
